The Carbon Cost Game

Manage a global supply chain across 10 rounds as carbon pricing rises from $0 to $100 per ton. Balance procurement cost, carbon emissions, and lead times to minimize your total cost. Watch how rising carbon prices reshape optimal sourcing decisions.

How It Works

  • Each round you must source exactly 1,000 units by allocating a percentage to each of 5 supplier locations.
  • Total cost = procurement cost + carbon cost + lead time penalty. Carbon cost rises each round.
  • Carbon price schedule: $0, $5, $10, $20, $30, $40, $50, $60, $75, $100 per ton of CO2.
  • Lead time penalty = $0.50 per unit per day for any supplier with lead time over 10 days.
  • After each round, see your cost breakdown and the optimal allocation for that carbon price.
  • Your score is based on how close your total cost is to the theoretical optimum across all 10 rounds.
