These are method references and further reading for the course library and practice tools, including sources consulted when reviewing the material. A reference does not mean that a source supplied the wording, questions or software on ProfSCM. References specific to a tool remain on that tool’s page.

Community projects and data blogs keep their own source lists. They are not repeated here.

Statistics and business analytics

NIST/SEMATECH e-Handbook of Statistical Methods
Reference for descriptive statistics, distributions, hypothesis tests, confidence intervals, regression, ANOVA and process monitoring across Stats 1, Stats 2, Stats 3 and the statistics tools. See the handbook’s confidence interval explanation.
NIST guidance on experimental design
The factorial design lab uses the standard ideas explained in Confounding and aliasing and Mirror-image foldover designs.
R Core Team — Adjust P-values for Multiple Comparisons
Method documentation for Bonferroni, Holm, Hochberg, Hommel, Benjamini–Hochberg and Benjamini–Yekutieli adjustments. The multiple-testing lab identifies the methods it implements; R’s documentation also gives the original paper citations.
Efron, B. (1979). Bootstrap Methods: Another Look at the Jackknife
The Annals of Statistics, 7(1), 1–26. A foundational reference for bootstrap resampling, explored in the bootstrap lab.
SciPy community — Studentized range distribution
The Tukey calculator’s critical values were computed with SciPy 1.18.1. Its generation recipe is available alongside the calculator. Values between stored rows use an approximation, described on the tool page.

OTexts, Melbourne. Further reading for demand forecasting, forecast evaluation and time-series topics in business analytics and SCM. The book’s text, datasets and R examples are available at the authors’ site; this link is not a republication of them.

Acknowledgement of the Beer Distribution Game’s roots in MIT’s system dynamics teaching. ProfSCM’s Beer Game is a separate implementation; it is not MIT’s online game and does not imply MIT endorsement.

Further reading on inventory policies, transport and logistics. The Lean Supply Chain lecture (2012) was consulted when reviewing the push/pull explanation.

Further reading on demand, capacity, process analysis, inventory and supply-chain coordination. Linked course materials have their own reuse terms; third-party case studies and images may have separate restrictions.

Additional explanation of zero-inventory ordering and the shortest-path formulation used in dynamic lot sizing.

Supply Chain Network Map

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission — EDGAR
The map’s customer relationships and the company-filings database use SEC filings. Structured financial facts retain their XBRL concept, USD unit, reporting period and source context; segment contexts and conflicting values are excluded. Narrative records are independently reviewed factual summaries. Each displayed link includes its filing, fiscal year and supporting excerpt. Concentration percentages retain the filer’s definition; an undisclosed value stays blank. The company-detail layers contain independently written factual summaries of identified ownership, facilities, procurement and carrier disclosures. Each record names its source and reporting year. Coverage is selective; an absent record is not evidence that a relationship does not exist. Carrier disclosures do not establish individual shipments or physical routes.
Wikipedia contributors — List of S&P 500 companies
Constituent names, sectors and headquarters cities use the September 4, 2026 revision, retrieved September 13. City coordinates are from Wikipedia’s coordinate records. These adaptations are available under CC BY-SA 4.0. SEC’s company ticker file supplies the CIK mapping. Membership and headquarters are a snapshot, not a historical reconstruction.
USAspending.gov — U.S. Department of the Treasury
Selected federal-award recipient profiles for fiscal year 2025. Each record links to its public API source. Registration-level totals cover all award types and must not be interpreted as contracts-only spending or a corporate-family total. Company matching uses the named legal entity and registered address, not a fuzzy parent-name match.

Network layout and interaction. MIT license notice.
Natural Earth — Tom Patterson, Nathaniel Vaughn Kelso and contributors
Public-domain land outlines for the globe. The lines between companies describe disclosed relationships, not physical shipping routes.
Leaflet — Vladimir Agafonkin and contributors
Self-hosted open-source library for the Street map view. BSD 2-Clause license.
OpenStreetMap contributors
The street basemap uses OpenStreetMap data, available under the Open Database License (ODbL), and community tile servers under the tile usage policy. Map requests are made when Street map is opened, under the OSMF privacy policy. The basemap remains a separate attributed layer; ProfSCM does not distribute an extracted OSM database. Report a basemap issue.
Bilawal Sidhu — God’s Eye View
Design inspiration for moving between an overview and individual details. ProfSCM’s globe rendering is a separate implementation; this page does not reuse that project’s third-party feeds, imagery or assets.

Software and design

Thank you to the maintainers of the open-source projects used to build the site: React, Base UI, Lucide, Tailwind CSS, Chart.js, KaTeX, node-qrcode, Express, Socket.IO and PostgreSQL, along with their dependencies. DM Sans and DM Serif Display provide the site’s typography.
